Starlight Festival 2018 offers visitors of all ages FREE admission to the Yerkes Observatory grounds May 26-27, 2018 from 10 am to 5 pm to enjoy outdoor STEM exhibits, demonstrations and talks.
To fully experience Yerkes, an astronomical research center completed in 1897 that is truly like no other in the world, we highly recommend participating in a PAID tour to learn about the beautiful architecture and rich history of the Observatory, and to see the 40-inch "Great Refractor", the world's largest lens-type telescope.
Guided tours will be conducted by our expert, engaging and entertaining
staff members every half hour from 10 am to 3:30 pm each day. Prepurchased ticket prices are $9 for visitors age 6 and over until May 25th. Tickets at the Door are $12 per adult and $9 per student age 6 - 17 at the Starlight Festival ticket booth on May 26 and 27. No additional discounts are available.
Purchase of daytime tour tickets does not include nighttime observing with the large Yerkes telescopes.
Each half hour tour is limited to a total of 60 participants.
Advance purchase is recommended as we expect the tours to be very popular and many of the tours could sell out quickly.
Viewing opportunities with the large Yerkes telescopes will be offered Saturday and Sunday evenings, May 26 and 27, weather permitting, at extra cost. Additional information and tickets will be available (based on predicted weather conditions) at the Yerkes Starlight Festival tent on Saturday and Sunday. The Yerkes staff regrets that we cannot offer advance reservations. Tickets may only be purchased at Yerkes and are subject to availability.
FREE parking, located close to the Observatory with FREE shuttle service, will be provided from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27.
Limited PAID parking will be available on site for $25 per day for cars, light trucks, SUVs and passenger vans.
